Outreach for Community groups

perseus

As part of the HMS Alliance project we are able to deliver an outreach service to schools and community groups who wish to learn more about HMS Alliance. We can bring the museum and some of its special objects to you!

HMS Alliance – her story

Using real objects and acedotes from some of HMS Alliance’s former crew learn more about the last surviving A Class submarine which was home to 65 people from 1947 to the 1970s. This can be combined with our film which depicts life on board Alliance with interviews with some of her former crew. This includes object handling including long johns, woolly jumpers, and real submarine smells!

Valerie King - Wickham Opensight group leader:

Thank you so much for coming to talk to the Opensight meeting. Judging by the comments I received they all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Justine Manning - Older Persons Service Coordinator Gosport Borough Council:

'Many thanks to both Daniel and Gareth for an excellent workshop. The feedback from residents was very good and they really enjoyed sharing some of their stories'.

Rosemary Kingdon, Manager - Kiln Lodge Care Home

'Everybody really enjoyed theirselve’s and it bought back a lot of memories for them all. They continued to talk about the afternoon for the rest of the day. Kiln Lodge would love to have you back at anytime with other memories and films. Thank you so much for yesterday'.

Donna Simpson - Health and Wellbeing Officer (Gosport Borough Council)

'I just wanted to say a huge thank you for supporting the time to reminesce project. We hope that some will be inspired to get out to our local museums and participate in the Heritage Open Days in September.  I hope that we can do something similar again.  We’re always happy to accommodate outreach work within our sheltered scheme settings, so please think of us in the future

Sue Wright - Paulsgrove Monday Club leader

'I can tell you that everyone enjoyed the talk that you gave, it was made really interesting seeing the artefacts and they had a real sense of what it was like to be on a submarine from what you told us and seeing the film. Thank you for a very interesting afternoon’.

Gosport Access Group and Disability Forum

'A great meeting smelling apple pie and poo! The stories were lively and the object handling was really interesting. The sensory experience of smelling various aromas which might have been found on the submarine was real nostril opener’.

Horrible Science of submarines show -

Luci Peacock - 1st Park Gate Beavers

How can i put it.. the parents have told me their kids haven't stopped telling everyone..they were the quietest and most absorbed we've seen them for a long time. you thouroughly captured their imagination, one mum was telling how her son came home and repeated everything he heard unrepeated for a good 10 mins.. not bad as he is 6'.

Deidre Russell - Home-school Link worker (Gomer Infants School, Dads Club)

A big thank you to Dan and Poppy for visiting our group today. The dads and children really enjoyed the show and were grateful to you both for giving up your Sunday morning especially as the weather was so lovely. I hope we can work together in the future'.

Jock Murdock - 1st Park Gate Cubs

Many thanks for your time and effort presenting to the Beavers on Wednesday. It is not what I thought that counts; the Beavers were completely engaged with the presentation and you held their interest and attention throughout. That is quite remarkable with 24 6-8 year-olds. They all wanted to take part and they enjoyed the evening. As I mentioned on the night I have never seen them so well behaved!

1st Titchfield Beavers

It was perfect for the groups age group, they all felt involved and they all had a turn!'

1st Gosport Beavers:

The children loved it and amazingly they were attentive – quite hard for a group of 6-8yr olds!!!

1st Fareham Rainbows and 1st Fareham Brownies:

The interactive elements were really enjoyed by all, and it was a very good evening
